ON YOUR KNEES

33494-praying-on-knees-woman-1200-1200w-tnFrom an early age, prayer is one of the things that most Christians have been taught how to do. I remember the prayer I used to pray before eating ,

For health and strength our daily food,We praise your name Oh Lord Amen

For most of us, it was only but routine. But as you grow older and make that personal decision to follow Christ and give God your life, you begin to understand that prayer is more than just a routine. Actually, I wouldn’t call it a routine. Prayer should be part of your life.

I once came across a quote that read;

“If you are too busy to pray and read God’s word, then you are busier than God ever intended you to be.”

Now, with my introduction done, let me get to my point on prayer. James 4:2-3 says “…you do not have because you do not ask God. When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures...”

Hold on to that verse, while I throw another one at you.

Matthew 7:7 “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” and then there’s Matthew 6:33 that says “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Sometimes, we are busy praying and asking God for provision and breakthroughs and you feel like nothing is coming through for you. In James, we are told we don’t have because we ask not. Matthew says ask and it shall be given unto you, seek and you shall find. Hold on there for a moment. What are you seeking? The kingdom of God! There! it’s not even rocket science! You cannot ask from a God you have no relationship with. Think of it this way, it’s like walking through the big city and approaching a complete stranger for help. Now do you get me?

We have made prayer, so much about our needs, that we forget that the reason God sent His son, was to restore the relationship between Him and man. Full stop! When I look at the creation story and the life of Adam in the garden of Eden, He never had to ask because God always provided. Why? Because there was a relationship between Him and Adam. And you see this is one of the reasons why, when facing storms in our lives, it is so easy to drift from God because we fail to see that He has a greater plan for us, because every time you go down on your knees, you are always asking and asking and asking but my question to you is, when do you ever bond with God? When do you ever fellowship with God? When do you ever have quiet time, to hear Him speak? Prayer, as defined in school, is having a conversation with God. Which means , you are not the only one who has to do the talking.

If there is something that God has taught me, and is continuing to teach me, is that it is through fellowship with Him, that our needs are met. Don’t get me wrong, I am not saying that it is wrong to go down on your knees and ask for His provision. All I am saying is that make your prayers less about you and more about Him because in the end, it’s all about Him, it’s always been about Him and it will forever be about Him. Let God do God and let you do you. He knows your name. He knows your every thought. He sees each tear that falls and hears you when you call.

He says in Matthew 6:25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? ” He has got your back and will always be there for you. Seek Him and you will find Him. He is closer than you could ever imagine. He will never leave you nor forsake you because He loves you and you mean the world to Him. Don’t you forget that.
